Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Peace of Christ be with you!
I know this has been a difficult time for so many of you, but we priests pray you are well. We priests also feel a loss in this time, because our ministry of charity has been so greatly affected. But friends, I truly believe that God is giving us immense graces in this time, to deepen our faith through prayer and penance. So although we are not able to worship God as we normally do, we are still able to grow in holiness...to become SAINTS!
So as we have began to adjust to our temporary reality, I want to communicate to you a few essential points:
- On Sundays, we will livestream Holy Mass at 10am in English and 12:30pm in Spanish. To access the livestream, please go to the parish website, www.WichitaCathedral.com, and see the link at the top of the webpage. The Masses will livestream through the Youtube page and the Facebook for the Diocese of Wichita.
Confessions will be heard at the normal times. To see the times, click here. Please be respectful of the following guidelines. Confessions will be heard in the Bridal Room, and we ask that penitents maintain a distance of at least 6 feet apart from each other when waiting. The door to the Bridal room does not need to be closed, and the seat for the penitent is clearly marked. Please do not move the seat or turn it to the priest. All of these guidelines are to protect the health of the penitent and the priest.
The Church will be open for private prayer Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00pm. Please enter through the south entrance by the office, and ring the bell to the Church office. You will be granted entrance by the parish receptionist. Please maintain social distance from others while in private prayer.
For communication with our parishioners, we will utilize and app called Flocknote for emails and texts, the Cathedral Facebook page found here for formational and spiritual aids, and the parish website, www.WichitaCathdral.com. If you know a parishioner who doesn't receive the emails or texts through Flocknote, tell them to text the word "Cathedral" to 84576 on their mobile phone, and they will start receiving these communications.
For spiritual nourishment, the priests will post short video meditations on the daily Mass readings on the Cathedral Facebook page. Also, we are working on videos on the interior life according to St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila. Please see the Facebook page here for these and other resources that we will post.
Finally, thinking of our elderly and homebound parishioners who might not have access to the internet, I would like to reach out to them to let them know we haven't forgotten about them and are praying for them. So I need some generous persons to call our elderly and homebound parishioners on Sunday to pray with them and to see if they need help with groceries or medicines. The priests will provide a prayer guide in English and Spanish for those who would like to help, so it should be relatively easy to do. If you have an interest in helping, please email me soon at keitera@wichitacathdral.com. This is wonderful way for a person to reach out to another in need, and is a real spiritual work of mercy.
Finally, out of fatherly concern for you all, I ask you to please take the COVID-19 threat seriously. All the numbers indicate that if we do not take social distancing seriously, many will die because of the virus. You and your families should stay home, do not travel unnecessarily, and avoid groups of people. When you leave your home for groceries, maintain 6 feet from everyone and disinfect your cart with Clorox wipes if possible, and certainly wash your wands as soon as you return home and often. Please keep your children away from their grandparents, and every person over 60 should avoid being around people. This may seem extreme, but this is what we are told time and time again by those who have been studying this pandemic. We must take it seriously and pray for each other every day. In fact, I ask you as your pastor to pray the rosary daily for an end to this pandemic and for those who are suffering because of it.
Know of my prayers for you every day, and that I carry you all in my heart as I approach Calvary in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Your father in Christ,
Father Keiter
Padre Adam Keiter
